The following is a statement from Teamsters Joint Council 42 President Chris Griswold on the vote by the Los Angeles City Council to finalize the project agreement for the Los Angeles Convention Center expansion and modernization:
“We thank the Los Angeles City Council for voting to support the long-overdue modernization of the Los Angeles Convention Center. Today’s vote is a meaningful first step towards creating thousands of good union jobs, supporting small businesses, and delivering long-term economic growth for the city.
This project represents an investment in the future of Los Angeles, one that puts working families first and brings real opportunity to the communities that need it most. From construction to trade show work and the many industries supported by convention tourism, this expansion will benefit workers across Los Angeles.
We look forward to continuing to work with city leaders, our coalition partners, and the broader community to make sure this project moves forward with a strong commitment to putting Angelenos to work.”
