2024 JC 42 SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS

The 2024 Teamsters Joint Council 42 scholarship winners. 20 outstanding students from 20 JC 42 Local Unions have
been awarded $2,000 cash stipends to further their studies.

Local 14: Simone Hinojos will be studying health physics and diagnostic sciences at UNLV. Her Teamster father Frank is a Breakthru Beverage truck driver.

Local 63: Jacob Madrigal scored a 4.4 GPA at high school in Norco and plans to study criminal justice. Mother Candice is a revenue recovery auditor at UPS-Riverside.

Local 166: Logan Quach will be carrying a 4.5 GPA to a California university to study pre-med biochemistry. Teamster parent Xuan Tran is an x-ray technician.

Local 396: Mia Juarez is on her way to Boise State to study marketing. Teamster dad is CR&R truck driver Joaquin Juarez.

Local 399: English and creative writing will be studied by the stipend winner from Local 399, Clementine Herold. Teamster parent Marisol Aragon-Herold is a driver.

Local 495: 4.7 GPA achiever David Escobedo will soon be studying finance, computer science and business economics at a leading university after a stellar career at Cathedral High School in Los Angeles. Teamster father David is a lead technician at Penske Truck Leasing.

Local 542: Dahlia Zepeda Silva will studying automotive engineering after compiling a 4.0 GPA at Gompers Prep Academy in San Diego. Teamster dad Manuel Zepeda is a First Transit para transit driver.

Local 572: Public health will be studied by 4.4 GPA graduate Fatema Chowdhury, whose parent, Nilofar Yasmin, is a L.A. Unified School District food service manager.

Local 630: Outstanding 4.4 GPA student Denise Plaza will be studying nursing at university. Her father Miguel is a lift truck operator at Americold Logistics.

Local 631: Health care administration will be the collegiate focus of Selena Cachu, an outstanding 4.7 GPA graduate from Indian Springs High in Nevada. Her Teamster parent is Amy Stinar who works at Amentum.

Local 683: Javier Quiroga is the stipend selection from Local 683. He racked up an impressive 4.2 GPA and will be studying kinesiology/exercise science. Father Javier drives for Trans Dev.

Local 848: Baseball playing James Quintero from Bishop Alemany posted a 4.4 GPA and will be studying mathematics at Pitzer College this fall. His dad is Sysco Food driver Jose.

Local 896: George Sandoval from Lancaster High will be studying electrical engineering soon. Teamster parent is Jorge Allan who works at Reyes.

Local 911: Amy Lwin is carrying a 3.9 GPA to college to study pharmaceutical sciences and chemical engineering. Teamster parent Aung Lwin is a facility coordinator.

Local 952: Three sport student athlete Jorge Ortiz will take his 3.8 GPA to college to study business administration. Father Jorge is a forklift operator at Albertsons.

Local 986: Noah Gagnon will be studying chemistry at a California college soon after achieving a 4.0 GPA. Father is Sean, a UPS driver.

Local 996: Edelyn Manalang ranked first in her senior class of 563 students at Waipahu High in Hawaii. She plans to major in hospitality and tourism at a Hawaiian university. Teamster father Edwin is a heavy equipment mechanic at Oahu Transit Service.

Local 1699: Lauren Linares plans to study hospitality business management out of state after posting a 3.9 GPA at Torrey Pines High in San Diego. Mother Annette is a registered nurse at Rady Children’s Hospital.

Local 1932: 4-year varsity softballer Ava Martinez is continuing her education at the University of Missouri to study communications. Mom Tanya is a communicable disease investigator for San Bernardino County.

Local 2010: Hakeya Thomas will be studying psychology at a University of California campus this fall after a stellar career at Lawndale High. Her Teamster parent is Kennesha Poma who is a patient communication representative at UCLA Health.
